How To Care For Jade Plant

Succulents require very little water, so only water when the soil is completely dry and let any excess water drain away. Reduce your watering to monthly in winter. If you’re a first-time plant parent, read our watering plants guide. You won’t regret it!

Find a bright spot for your Jade Plant. Keep away from direct sunlight which can scorch its leaves but a bright space is best. Once the plant is more established it will be able to tolerate more shade.

Crassula Ovata doesn’t require an overly humid environment but you can mist occasionally.

A free-draining cacti / succulent potting mix will work best for your Jade Plant.

It is quite common for people to underfeed succulents during the growing season. It is recommended to use a slow-releasing fertiliser like Miracle Gro’s Push & Feed early in the season. Use a balanced feed for mature plants at quarter strength and a mix with less nitrogen for younger plants. If you have never fertilised a Jade Plant, make sure you read our guide to using fertiliser!

Watch out for mealybugs which can leave white patches on your jade plant. However, we wouldn’t recommend using insecticides or neem oil on this plant as they are quite sensitive to them. Instead, wipe away bugs with a damp cloth. If you think your Jade Plant has been infected, you can diagnose this using our pests and diseases guide!

You should be able to re-pot your jade plant every 2-3 years. Only go one pot size up when you do so. Always make sure the soil is dry before repotting which helps ensure the roots stay intact. We have a handy repotting guide if you have never repotted your plant before.
