How To Care For Umbrella Plant
When you do water, make sure you thoroughly soak the soil. Let the soil in your pot dry out between watering. Make sure you don’t over-water your Umbrella Plant as this will kill your beloved house plant. A tell-tale sign of this is if the leaves start to turn yellow. Umbrella Plants like to be kept in bright, indirect sunlight. A common problem is that they may lose leaves and wilt rapidly- this is often caused by too little light. Offer them a position with a splash of morning sun and avoid them being exposed to for more than three hours of direct sunlight
You shouldn’t need to mist your Schefflera too regularly, but all plants like a bit of a pampering every now and again. If you have nothing to mist with, we have the perfect solution! Try our water mister.
Umbrella Plants like a well-draining, loose potting mixture.
The Umbrella Plant doesn’t really need fertilizing, but you can give them a feed once a year if you wish. Something like our Miracle-Gro All Purpose Pump and Feed would be perfect as this will ensure your umbrella plant has strong roots, stems and a bright bushy foliage at the same time!

Although rare, the Umbrella Plant may become susceptible to aphids, scales, and mealybugs. If this becomes a problem, simply treat it with some of our neem oil!

The Origins of the Umbrella Plant
The Umbrella Plant originated in Australia but is now able to grow all around the world in tropical, temperate regions! The plant is well known for its symbolic meaning – the leaf fingers are said to capture positive energy and attract wealth for those who own and care for them.
Care Tips for your Umbrella Plant:
- Watering – keep your Umbrella Plant’s soil moist but not wet.
- Warmth – Don’t let your umbrella plant get too cold.
- Light – Give your Umbrella Plant as much light as possible (without scorching it).
- Pruning – If your umbrella plant is suffering and has become a little ‘floppy’ due to not having enough light, it might be time to give your indoor plant a bit of a haircut. Simply cut away a few excess leaves and your Schefflera should bounce back even fuller.
